The curriculum at Little Learners is built to prepare students for a successful entry into Kindergarten. We focus not only academic skills but also on important social skills and the necessity of play while using a variety of techniques to make it interesting and fun. The use of themes keeps our students engaged and enthusiastic about learning. Some of our favorite themes used to teach have been: fairly tales, night time, hot chocolate, apples, dental health, and exercise.
Academic Skills:
Math: patterns, one to one correspondence, number recognition and counting up to 20, use of ten frames, sequencing, less and more, graphing, estimating, measuring and basic addition.
Literacy: recognition of upper and lower case letters, connecting sounds to letters, beginining and ending sounds of words, building vocabulary, sequencing and sorting, rhyming and opposites, and listening to and retelling stories.
Fine motor: prewriting and scissor skills.
Social Skills: conversation, cooperation, self control, communication, conflict resolution, curiosity, kindness and problem solving.
All these skills are taught through games, art, science experiments, cooking, large gross motor movement, singing, teacher inquiry and most importantly play.
